Motor Swaps
There are alot of different motor swaps for these cars. Before you choose which one you have to think of 2 things, your skills and your money. There are 3 different types of motors that will fit into the engine bay. These are the D, B, and H-series motors. The D-series motors go right in. The B-series require little modification, mounts, and a few various other things. The H-series is the hardest and most expensive. It requires a couple different sets of mounts, heavier modification, and some other stuff I'll get into later. At the bottom of the page are some of the stock motors found in various Hondas.
D-Series
The D-series swap is the easiest and cheapest swap in a 4th gen. It is a very popular swap to put a Z6 or Y8 Vtec head on a D15 or D16 block. Your car had a d series from the factory so you can use all of your stock components. The L3 tranny out of the 4g Si is the tranny your going to want to use.
B-Series
B-series motors are probably the most popular. Go in pretty easy and their not a slow motor stock. The cable tranys available are S1, A1, Y1, and the YS1. The Y1 is optional LSD and the YS1 is LSD. The S1 and A1 are out of 90-91 Integras, the Y1 is the JDM B16 tranny, and the YS1 is a GsR tranny. You'll need motor mounts. Hasport is definately the best but there are other companies one being HCP. Then your going to need shift linkage. There is adjustable linkage available through Hasport. There is also a company named Avid or you can shorthen 90-93 Integra linkage. The stock throttle cable doesn't work so you'll need it off of a 90-93 Integra. The axles from a 90-93 Integra or custom axles must be used. Dx or Si hubs need to be used. The dust rings also need to be taken off of the knuckles. A 90-93 Integra intermediate shaft to go along with the axles. Vtec needs to be wired in if using a vtec motor.
- A8 Vtec solenoid
- B5 Vtec oil pressure switch
- B19 Knock sensor
- C8 2nd O2 sensor
A large dent must be made in the frame rail, right below the strut tower, for alternator clearance. Last the stock exhaust manifold won't match up. You can either get a cat. with adjustable flange, get a custom exhaust, or use your d series downpipe with the b series cast manifold.
H-Series
H-series motors require alot of work to get them in and almost require an upgraded suspension because of the increase in weight. This is a pretty expensive swap and definately the most complicated of the b, d, and h series.
